Fast heart beating
Written by sa on November 18, 2011 – 1:52 pmPatients with a very rapid heart over a long period of time do run a risk of developing enlargement and failure of the heart, but such cases are rare. The following conditions can make the heart beat faster, stronger or more irregularly, so can be a cause of heart palpitations:
• an overactive thyroid
• low blood sugar level
• anaemia
• some types of low blood pressure
You may be at risk of developing palpitations if you:
• Are highly stressed
• Have an anxiety disorder or regularly experience panic attacks
• Are pregnant
• Take medicines that contain stimulants, such as some cold or asthma medications
• Have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)
You may require a physician who diagnoses and treats abnormal heart rhythms.
